ADP Pre-Employment Screening Index Reveals 20 Percent Increase in the Number of Annual Background Checks Performed by Employers

New Smart Hiring Technology Helps Employers Make Consistent and Informed Hiring Decisions Based on Company Policies

ROSELAND, NJ -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 27, 2007 -- ADP® Employer Services (ES), a division of Automatic Data Processing, Inc. (NYSE: ADP), a leader in outsourced payroll, HR and benefits administration solutions, today released its annual Screening Index, a yearly evaluation of employment screening and hiring trends. Last year alone, ADP Screening and Selection Services conducted 5,815,511 background checks, a nearly 20 percent increase over the previous year.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of ADP's annual Screening Index. The results of the 2007 Screening Index reveal that organizations continue to see the importance of background screening. As the industry evolves, employers are increasingly adopting processes to automate applicant screening and evaluation to save time and resources while ensuring a safe and trustworthy workforce.

"Over the past ten years, we have seen the number of background checks performed quadruple across our client base. Last year alone, ADP background checks increased by nearly one million," said Dean Suposs, General Manager of ADP Screening and Selection Services. "We are committed to continuing to help our clients hire quality candidates, while reducing expenses and complying with regulations through our screening and selection services."

In keeping with that commitment, ADP Screening and Selection Services launched a new tool this year to help deliver additional value to its clients. ADP's Smart Hiring Technology enables employers to evaluate applicants consistently and objectively, receive intuitive background screening results, expedite the hiring process, and hire the best candidates. Based on a default hiring policy or a client-specific policy, ADP will rate each individual background screening report as either "Meets Policy," "Indeterminate," or "Does Not Meet Policy."

"ADP has been performing our background checks for three years. ADP Screening and Selection Services has been extremely beneficial in helping us reduce potential company risk," said Christine A. Huff, Assistant Vice President/National Agency Administrator, Ticor Title Insurance Company, a brand of Fidelity National Title Group. "We value ADP as a reliable and trusted partner in our screening process. ADP's new Select 3.0 Smart Hiring Technology is a great tool to help streamline the candidate screening process."

Screening Index Highlights and Report Findings:
