Advantech Expands Remote Services to Accelerate Evaluation of VNFs on Next Generation Networking Platforms

New Evaluation Systems Announced Which Host 6WIND Virtual Accelerator and Turbo Appliances

BARCELONA, SPAIN--(Marketwired - March 02, 2015) - Mobile World Congress - Advantech (TWSE: 2395) took another step forward today in its NFV Elasticity initiative with the announcement that 6WIND will be making its Virtual Accelerator and Turbo Appliances available for customer and ecosystem evaluation using Advantech's Remote Evaluation Services. The service offers access for customers to rapidly evaluate performance of the latest silicon and boards across the broadest range of networking platforms in the industry, including the new Packetarium™ XL platforms launched today.

Customers can load their software onto Advantech ATCA and eATCA evaluation platforms, Carrier Grade Servers and Network Appliances to run functional tests, to get an early start on development or for evaluation and benchmarking. VNF developers and operators will have an unprecedented choice of networking gear available which allows them to tap into the processing power of several CPU cores or several hundred. With connectivity to a wide range of 1, 10, 40 and 100GbE ports, the scale-out and service chaining of Virtual Network Functions can be benchmarked with finer precision to identify platforms that are able to meet specific service level agreements.

Telecom operators are pressing technology providers to provide them with the means to virtualize network nodes that accomplish certain network functions on top of a generic, open virtualized infrastructure: the Network Function Virtualization Infrastructure (NFVI). 6WIND Virtual Accelerator provides them with accelerated virtual switching and networking features for virtual infrastructures to enable Network Function Virtualization (NFV), data center virtualization and network appliance virtualization. 6WIND Virtual Accelerator runs within the hypervisor domain with a hardware-independent architecture managed by OpenStack that allows new and existing Virtual Machines (VMs) to be integrated quickly onto x86-based servers. As the industry's only transparent virtual infrastructure acceleration solution, 6WIND Virtual Accelerator is provided as a simple software package so that customers do not have to replace or modify existing software such as Open vSwitch (OVS), Linux, Hypervisors and OpenStack.

In addition, 6WIND Turbo Appliances include Turbo Router and Turbo IPsec, which are high performance software appliances available for bare metal and virtual machine deployments. 6WIND's Turbo Appliances also integrate with 6WIND Virtual Accelerator for the highest virtual network function (VNF) performance.

"The 6WIND Virtual Accelerator framework aligns extremely well with Advantech's broad networking product portfolio" said Paul Stevens, Marketing Director, Advantech Networks and Communications Group. "6WIND delivers hardware independence for seamless hardware upgrades, including 10GbE to 40GbE and 100G ports, while Advantech provides a flexible range of hardware platforms, remotely available, that allow customers to verify if they can reach the wire speed performance necessary with enough VM capacity on a specific server platform."

"The breadth of choice and sheer scalability of x86-based networking gear from Advantech offers a lot of flexibility for customers to test the 6WIND product range. Our new Turbo Appliances can be easily integrated with our Virtual Accelerator for rapid evaluation of accelerated virtual switching and networking infrastructure, and third party virtual functions, using Advantech's Remote Evaluation Services," said Eric Carmès, CEO and Founder of 6WIND. "In the transition to NFV and virtual networking environments Telecom operators will need solid lab models like Advantech's to help solve performance challenges faster and choose the most cost-effective solutions to meet fast-evolving customer needs."

Both 6WIND and Advantech are present at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week. 6WIND are located in Hall 7 Stand 7M51 while Advantech are present at Hall 5 Meeting Room 5L16MR.
