Advantech Expands Up and Out With New Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2600 v3 Product Family & 14-Slot Netarium™ eATCA Platform

3 New ATCA Blades Optimized for Telecom, Datacom and Server-Specific Workloads Emphasize Increasing Market Focus on Workload Consolidation

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - September 08, 2014) - Intel® Developers Forum - Advantech (TWSE: 2395) today announced three new blades for their industry-leading Netarium™ series of ATCA systems based on the new Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2600 v3 Family. The company also extended their eATCA product offering with the announcement of the Netarium-14e, the company's new flagship 14-slot eATCA Platform for ultra high-end networking applications. Each of the new blades is workload-optimized for network equipment providers serving the communications infrastructure, network security and enterprise networking markets. In addition, two of the new blades offer form, fit and function upgrades to users deploying previous generation products.

Customers looking to deploy the Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2600 v3 family coupled with the new C610 chipset will see significant performance boosts due to more processor cores, increased memory bandwidth and newly integrated instructions. Advantech products deploying the new architecture, previously known as Haswell EP, are the MIC-5343 40G ATCA Blade for Datacom, the MIC-5344 40G ATCA Blade for Telecom and the MIC-5345 40G Blade available in single or dual CPU SKUs for Server and virtualized applications. All three blades integrate the new Intel® XL710 40 GbE controller for optimum network throughput. ATCA systems that utilize the MIC-534x blades include Advantech's 2, 6 and 14 slot Netarium™ Systems and their 2 and 14 slot Netarium eATCA systems.

"Intel continues to accelerate network infrastructure evolution with timely enhancements that boost performance, reduce power budgets and introduce specialized acceleration features." said Peter Marek, senior director x86 systems, Advantech Networks and Communications Group. "At Advantech we are developing solutions in unison with Intel that combine performance improvements and 4-to-1 consolidation assets to bring workload-optimized solutions to market. CAPEX continues to be a concern for customers as new investments are introduced, but greater reductions in OPEX can only be realized if blades and systems are tailored to the needs of the application rather than a "one-size-fits-all" approach."

The Netarium-14e is the second eATCA system from Advantech based on the pioneering new eATCA architecture. The 14-slot flagship of the eATCA system series integrates all Advantech iA node blades equipped with the new Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2600 v3 series, and is the first eATCA system to offer nearly 4 terabits of switching capacity in a dual dual-star topology. The Netarium-14e is targeted at network equipment providers building security, policy control and enforcement, and other high-end networking applications.

"We see the Netarium-14e as particularly well suited for DPI-centric network intelligence and analytics needs," said Paul Stevens, marketing director, Networks & Communications Group" In ultra-high end networking equipment, providers are pushing the I/O density and packet processing performance to its limits in order to respond to increasing throughput demand," concluded Stevens. "Our new 14-slot eATCA system allows customers to go beyond ATCA, using blades with the latest Intel® Xeon® processor plus Network Mezzanine Cards (NMCs) on our Extended RTMs enables customers to offer highly cost-effective solutions and to truly differentiate their products by adding their own hardware acceleration and offload options."

The MIC-5343 datacom blade deploys two Intel® Xeon® E5-2600 v3 Processors with Intel® C610 chipset and integrates eight DDR4 R/UDIMMs for up to 512GB of memory with ECC support. Up to four 40GBase-KR4 ports or four 40G FlowNIC ports on the fabric interface provide support for dual-dual star backplane topologies supporting up to 160Gbps per MIC-5343 using two Type I Fabric Mezzanine sites. The blade comes with two 10/100/1000BASE-T front panel ports and one FMM (type II) for front I/O or acceleration. Various hot-swappable RTMs with 36 PCIe gen.3 lane are available. The MIC-5343 is a form, fit and function upgrade to MIC-5333 and is particularly suited to applications requiring high-speed connectivity and extensive packet processing capacity.

The MIC-5344 Telecom Blade also includes two Intel® Xeon® E5-2600 v3 Processors and the Intel® C610 PCH with eight DDR4 R/UDIMMs for up to 512GB with ECC support. Like the MIC-5343, up to four 40GBase-KR4 ports on Fabric interface are supported and two 1000BASE-T ports on the base interface. One Fabric Mezzanine Module (FMM) port with front I/O support (type II) is available and two CFast / one 2.5" SSD storage device provide solid state memory for application and data backup. The blade is form, fit and function compatible with the MIC-5332 and provides all the failsafe and failover options required in a Telecom environment.

To complete the trio, the MIC-5345 Server Blade is cost-optimized for virtualized workloads. With one or two Intel® Xeon® E5-2600 v3 Processors and the Intel® C610 chipset support, it offers significantly higher memory capacity up to 1TB via 16 DIMM slots for optimized VM support and server applications. Up to 2x 40GBaseKR4 ports on the Fabric Interface support dual star topologies and two standard 1000BASE-T ports ensure base interface connectivity. A single socket CPU version adds two 2.5" SSDs for additional local storage while one of the FMM Type II sites can be replaced with a third 2.5" SSD device.

All three blades are compatible with the full range of Advantech Netarium platforms. The Netarium-14e, 14-slot eATCA systems integrates all three blades along with the latest extended rear transition modules (eRTM) which provide almost four times the real-estate when compared with standard RTM implementations. The increased RTM footprint can be used by designers to increase PCIe-based I/O connectivity and to add additional application acceleration and processor offload options.

This additional capacity makes the 14-slot Netarium System ideal for high bandwidth packet processing in networks with millions of subscribers. Up to twelve payload blades coupled with their respective RTM modules meet high port-count needs in applications requiring line-rate deep packet inspection for fast packet filtering or traffic management.

"With these new offerings, Advantech is once again accelerating network platform evolution, lowering our customer's development risks and improving their time-to-market with solutions that are tailored to their specific application and market needs," said Peter Marek, senior director x86 solutions, Advantech Networks and Communications Group. "Our new ATCA platforms featuring the latest Intel® technology will enable our customers to make quantum leaps in very high-end networking gear."

Advantech will be showcasing the new products at the Intel® Developers Forum, September 9-11 in San Francisco, CA, USA.
