Advisory: Injured Worker Rally to Call for Systemic Review of WSIB Practices and an End to Injured Workers Poverty

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Dec. 14, 2015) - The Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) will be joining the Ontario Network of Injured Workers' Groups (ONIWG) for a rally outside the Ministry of Labour at 11:00 am on Monday, December 14, 2015 to protest the ongoing poverty and unjust treatment facing the province's injured workers and their families.

For 24 years, injured workers, advocates and allies have been organizing an annual Christmas protest outside the Ministry of Labour to demand safer working conditions and justice for injured workers. The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) reports that every year roughly 200,000 workers are injured on-the-job in Ontario, but an additional 20-60 percent are hidden from these statistics because of claim suppression or failure to claim.

The OFL and ONIWG released a damning report in November that exposed interference on the part of the WSIB in the medical care of injured workers. Now they are calling for a systemic review of the WSIB's practices.
