Advisory:New report on Alberta zoos to be released in Calgary Oct 12

Report shows why Alberta's new zoo standards are overdue, World Society for the Protection of Animals will say at 11 am news conference. Some Alberta zoos put animals and the public at risk. What: The World Society for the Protection of Animals will launch a new report Failing the Grade: Alberta Zoos Five Years On. The report which documents animal welfare problems and public safety problems at four Alberta zoos is based on audits conducted recently at the following zoos: Calgary Zoo, Valley Zoo (Edmonton), Discovery Wildlife Park (Innisfail) and Guzoo Animal Farm (Three Hills). WSPA can be expected to congratulate the Alberta government on new zoo provincial zoo standards introduced this month and to call for increased enforcement to eliminate problems that put both animals and the public at risk.
