Aecon Awarded $79 Million Contract for University of Ottawa Social Science Building

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 3, 2009) - Aecon Group Inc. (TSX:ARE) announced today that its Buildings Division has been awarded a $79 million contract for the construction of a new Social Science Building and the renovation of Vanier Hall at the University of Ottawa.

Under this contract, Aecon will build a new 278,000 square foot structure which will be built to LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold standards. The building will be 16-storeys tall with two additional levels below ground. Lab rooms, class rooms and offices will occupy the space.

In addition, Aecon will renovate administrative space at Vanier Hall on the University of Ottawa's campus. The 148,000 square foot, six-storey building will also be LEED certified. Work on both projects will begin immediately and is expected to be complete in September 2011.

Aecon recently announced a $52 million contract awarded to Aecon Buildings for the redevelopment of the Queenston-Lewiston Border Crossing Plaza, as well as a $47 million contract award for the reconstruction of the Carbonneau Bridge in Quebec. This brings the total of value of contract awards announced by Aecon this week to $178 million.
