AER Sets Scope and Timing of Proceeding to Examine Odours and Emissions from Heavy Oil Operations in the Peace River Area

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - Oct. 23, 2013) - The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) has issued its decision on the scope and timing of the proceeding initiated to investigate and make recommendations about odours and emissions associated with heavy oil operations in the Peace River area.

Following an organizational meeting held in Peace River, Alberta, on October 7, 2013, in which multiple stakeholders requested additional time to fully prepare, the AER has proposed a new schedule that sets January 21, 2014 as the first day of the public hearing portion of the proceeding. The AER panel expects to issue its report by March 31, 2014.

The AER will review a number of issues in the proceeding concerning impacts from emissions and odours related to heavy oil operations in the Peace River area. The full scope established by the AER is available at www.aer.ca.

"When I requested the Chief Hearing Commissioner initiate this proceeding in July, the purpose was to ensure that the concerns of the residents in the Peace River area about heavy oil operations were adequately addressed in a timely manner," said AER CEO Jim Ellis.
