Aetna Selects WebLayers for I.T. Policy Governance of IBM SmartSOA Platform

CAMBRIDGE, MA--(Marketwire - March 3, 2010) - WebLayers today announced that Aetna, one of the nation's leading diversified health care benefits companies, has selected WebLayers software to help the company gain greater visibility into its information technology (I.T.) infrastructure and development processes.

Part of Aetna's I.T. strategy is to enable the company to proactively respond to potential shifts in the health care industry including government regulations and globalization. To achieve these goals and improve the customer experience, Aetna is more closely linking I.T. with its business goals through a services oriented architecture (SOA) based on IBM technology and WebLayers' automated, distributed governance software.

"Aetna is constantly working to further adapt its flexible and responsive I.T. infrastructure in order to more quickly respond to changing market trends," said Michael Mathias, vice president & Chief Technology Officer, Aetna. "Through the use of our services oriented architecture (SOA), which is supported by IBM technology and complemented by WebLayers' automated, distributed governance software, we can more successfully compete in the dynamic health care marketplace."

As a central point for governing the company's mainframe, Java and web services, WebLayers' automated, governance software ensures that potential policy violations in the software development life cycle are proactively identified and addressed before they have a negative impact on the business. From a broad industry perspective, policy violations in software code can result in erroneous data, system failures and an overall decrease in productivity and customer satisfaction.

"Playing a critical role in Aetna's I.T. strategy not only demonstrates the insurer's commitment to WebLayers, it also underscores the value of our long-standing business partner relationship with IBM," said Jeff Papows, president and CEO, WebLayers.

Additionally, WebLayers is helping Aetna prevent the duplication of development efforts, the creation of unauthorized web services and to facilitate the appropriate cataloging and reuse of approved web services.
