VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - May 4, 2007) - The Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC), the national voice of Canada's 17 faculties of medicine, is pleased to a host of the 2007 Medical Education Conference in Victoria, British Columbia from May 5-9 at the Victoria Conference Centre. The conference will bring together close to 900 medical educators, professionals, students and policy makers to discuss a wide range of issues related to medical education.

"This is a very exciting event. It is exceedingly rare that this many diverse stakeholders come together to discuss the education of health professionals - an issue that is so often ignored in discussions about our health system -" said Nick Busing, President and CEO of the AFMC. "We need to address the critical issue of how we train medical professionals within our broader discussions about improving the Canadian healthcare system. A systems-approach is needed for any sustainable improvements to our healthcare system, and medical education must be considered an essential component of the system".
