EDMONDS AND GROVES RETIRE FROM AFPLATS BOARD

London, 26 May 2005 - Aim-listed exploration and development company African Platinum has announced the retirement of founders Phil Edmonds and Andrew Groves from its board with effect from 25 May 2005.

African Platinum (Afplats) was known as Southern African Resources until yesterday, when shareholders approved its new name to give the company a more clearly descriptive identity ahead of its planned secondary listing on the American Stock Exchange.

Afplats said the departure of Edmonds and Groves was in line with their stated commitment to stepping down once a professional management team and board had been put in place.

"Phil and Andrew made a very significant contribution to this company and we'll miss their entrepreneurial expertise, but we fully understand their desire to devote more time to their new projects now that Afplats has been developed well beyond its start-up stage," chief executive Roy Pitchford said.

Afplats is due to publish the results of the prefeasibility study on its flagship Leeuwkop project on the South African Bushveld complex shortly.
