AfterCollege Survey of Recent Graduates Reveals a Positive Job Outlook, Majority Now Employed

AfterCollege Survey Reveals That Close to 60 Percent of Recent College Graduates Have Found Jobs

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 9, 2005 -- A recent survey of more than 500 2005 college graduates conducted by AfterCollege Inc. (www.aftercollege.com), the nation's largest career network specializing in recruitment at the college level, revealed that 57.7% of graduates are employed, while 27% are still looking for the right job. Five percent stated that they were returning to school for an advanced degree or a second degree and the remaining students specified that they were not actively looking for jobs. Many of the recently employed have relied on networking and online research to find their first job.

"The results of the survey are an encouraging sign for students entering the job market," said Roberto Angulo, CEO of AfterCollege. "The high percentage of employed graduates combined with the number of students who are taking their time to look for the right job provide hints that students may have some leverage in the job market".

According to survey respondents who stated they were employed, 43 percent of them found their jobs by networking through friends, family, faculty and members of their departments. Another 40 percent of students found employment through online research. The remaining graduates found their jobs through more traditional means, with 11 percent obtaining employment via their university's career center and six percent through newspaper and print publications.

AfterCollege's survey also revealed that out of those graduates who are still looking for work, many of them are taking time off to enjoy their summer vacation, and others are still figuring out what they want to do.

About the Survey

AfterCollege surveyed more than 500 college students who graduated between April and June of 2005. Respondents represent a broad spectrum of disciplines and approximately 80 percent of them obtained undergraduate degrees, with the rest obtaining advanced degrees.
