Agricore United Announces 2006 Scholarship Recipients

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 16, 2006) - Agricore United (TSX:AU) today announced that 14 students from across western Canada have been awarded scholarships to assist with their post-secondary education. The scholarships are awarded annually to Agricore United farmer-members or their immediate families.

"The scholarship program is part of Agricore United's larger focus on promoting youth education and leadership," says Wayne Drul, Chair. "It's just one of several ways we give back to the communities where we do business."

The scholarships awarded include 12, four-year scholarships providing $600 annually to a maximum of $2,400 and two FarmGUARD, one-year $500 scholarships.

Recipients of the four-year scholarships are:

Manitoba - Tyler Friesen, Kane; Ryan Kern, Swan River; Tara Love, Portage la Prairie.

Saskatchewan - Amy Beattie, Parry; Gregory Little, Carrot River; Holly Measner, Holdfast.

Alberta/BC - Chase Atkinson, Nobleford; Karly Bergen, Lacombe; Shannon Wiebe, High Level.

Random draw - Laura Polasek, Sexsmith, AB; Luella Pomedli, Pilger, SK; Dave Pyra, North Battleford, SK.

Recipients of the one-year FarmGUARD scholarships are: Jill Heinrichs, Gretna, MB and Sarah Nolte, Morinville, AB.

The four-year scholarships are awarded to students who are members, or immediate family (spouse or child) of members of Agricore United, attending full-time post secondary education at a recognized college or university for any field of study. FarmGUARD scholarship recipients must be enrolled in agriculture or any ag-related field of study. Application forms are available at all Agricore United locations or on the web site at and must be received prior to July 1 of each academic year.
