Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Approves a Route That Will Allow for the Completion of the Highway 410 Extension Project

SHERBROOKE, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - May 15, 2009) - The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of National Revenue and Minister of State (Agriculture), today announced Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's acceptance of the new planned route that will allow the ministere des Transports du Quebec to use part of the grounds of the Dairy and Swine Research and Development Centre (DSRDC) to complete phase two of the southern bypass around Sherbrooke as part of the Autoroute 410 extension.

"With the agreement, according to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, there are no longer any obstacles to moving forward with phase two of the project, said Minister Blackburn. This route shows, once again, our ability to work together toward improving the prosperity and economy of the District of Lennoxville in Estrie."

The route is located near Glenday Road between the two routes that were proposed at the hearings by Quebec's Bureau des audiences publiques sur l'environnement. This route will minimize the impact on DSRDC, while allowing safe operations and maintaining our ability to meet environmental obligations.
