Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada: Minister's Message

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 14, 2011) - Every year, an average of 115 people are killed as a result of farm related incidents. The number of fatalities has declined over the past two decades, but like you, our Government knows that one farm injury is one too many.

Many farm accidents are avoidable, and everyone has a role to play in improving farm safety, which is why it's important to take the necessary steps now to reduce the risk of injury for farmers and their families.

The Government of Canada is proud to support initiatives that help farmers stay safe as they continue to put their quality products in grocery stores across the country and around the world.

Our hope is that during Canadian Agricultural Safety Week, farmers will equip themselves with the tools they need to implement safer work practices throughout the year. Farm safety can be a matter of life and death. By improving safety measures on the farm, you're making an important investment in your future.
