Agrinova Receives $400,000 in Funding from Government of Canada

ALMA, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Dec. 21, 2010) - Acting on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, the Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Minister of State (Agriculture), today announced the awarding of $400,000 in non-repayable funding to Agrinova. Granted through the Business and Regional Growth program, this financial assistance will enable the agricultural technology transfer centre to continue offering its specialized services in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region.

"Through its research and development, Agrinova seeks to bring innovative new ideas to the agri-food processing sector, ideas that emerging companies can then use to create products with strong commercial potential," stated Minister Blackburn.

The financial support from Canada Economic Development will allow Agrinova to improve the quality of its services to Quebec agri-food enterprises, which will in turn help increase the performance of these companies while bolstering the growth of a key sector of the economy. This Agrinova project will result in the creation of some 10 new jobs in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean over the next five years.
