AHFC Accepts Applications for Energy-Efficient Loans for Public Buildings

ANCHORAGE, AK--(Marketwire - December 10, 2010) - Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) announced the availability of a loan program to finance permanent energy-efficient improvements to buildings owned by regional educational attendance areas, the University of Alaska, the state, and municipalities in the state.

Loans through the Alaska Energy-Efficiency Revolving Loan Fund (AEERLF), authorized by the 2010 Alaska Legislature, are designed so the energy savings are equal to or greater than the loan payments for the energy-efficiency improvements.

AHFC CEO/Executive Director Dan Fauske said, "This is an excellent opportunity for these public building owners to reduce their energy expenditures and improve their buildings' performance. The energy savings will repay the loan and provide tremendous long-term reductions in energy costs."

The Renewable Energy Alaska Project (REAP) is assisting AHFC in contacting municipalities and school districts interested in participating. To start the application process for the loan, eligible applicants use the Retrofit Energy Assessment for Loan (REAL) to evaluate a potential project.

Program details, the REAL Manual and application are available on AHFC's website at: http://bit.ly/emjWT6.

AHFC is a self-supporting public corporation with offices in 16 communities statewide. It provides statewide financing for multi-family complexes, congregate facilities, and single-family homes, with special loan options for low- to moderate-income borrowers, veterans, teachers, health care professionals, and those living in rural areas of the state.

AHFC also provides energy and weatherization programs, low-income rental assistance in 17 communities, and special programs for the homeless and those seeking to become self-sufficient. AHFC has contributed more than $1.9 billion to Alaska's state budget revenues through cash transfers, capital projects and debt-service payments.
