Ahura FirstDefender Receives Cygnus INNOVATION Award in Hazmat Category

Rugged, Handheld Chemical Identification System Honored at International Law Enforcement Conference

WILMINGTON, MA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- October 25, 2006 -- Ahura Corporation today announced that the FirstDefender™ handheld chemical identification system has been honored with an INNOVATION Award in the hazmat category by the Cygnus Business Media Public Safety Group, publishers of Law Enforcement Technology, Law Enforcement Product News and Announced in conjunction with the International Association of Chiefs of Police Annual Conference in Boston, Massachusetts, the INNOVATION Awards recognize companies for creating innovative products designed to make law enforcement officers more efficient, effective and safe.

FirstDefender is a rugged, waterproof handheld instrument for the identification of unknown liquids, solids and mixtures. Already in use by military and civilian first responders around the globe for accurate and instant identification of potentially dangerous substances, FirstDefender is quickly gathering momentum in the law enforcement arena. Of particular interest is FirstDefender's application in remediation of clandestine methamphetamine labs. Because it enables responders to identify precursor materials and toxic chemicals through sealed glass and plastic containers, FirstDefender makes methamphetamine lab cleanup faster, safer and less costly to the agency in charge. Also of interest to law enforcement agencies are applications in explosives and narcotics identification.

"FirstDefender has made solid strides within hazmat teams and the military, and we're excited to expand into the law enforcement community," said Douglas Kahn, chairman and chief executive officer of Ahura Corporation. "This award is testament to the powerful impact Ahura products have on public security -- bringing added safety and peace of mind to officers and to those they protect."

Current FirstDefender customers include the Federal Bureau of Investigations, U.S. Army, U.S. Customs and Immigration, Fire Department of New York, City of Seattle Fire Department, Washington D.C. Fire Department, New Jersey State Police, Pennsylvania State Police and more than 150 other agencies in the United States.

INNOVATION Award winners were selected from more than 180 entries in 16 categories after evaluation by a panel of active law enforcement professionals. Selection criteria included innovativeness, productivity, quality, contribution and ease of use.

FirstDefender has been honored with other prestigious awards for its design, portability, functionality and innovation, including a 2006 R&D 100 Award; the Industrial Design Society of America Award for Excellence in Industrial Design; and the Frost & Sullivan 2006 Chemical Detection Industry Innovation and Advancement of the Year.
