Ahura Scientific's TruDefender FT Selected as One of Top Three Products at PITTCON 2008 by Strategic Directions International

Company's Instrument Selected Based on Innovation and Usability From Among 1,100 Exhibitors' Products

WILMINGTON, MA--(Marketwire - March 25, 2008) - Ahura Scientific, Inc., a leader in rugged, ultra-compact handheld instruments for chemical identification, announced today that Strategic Directions International, Inc. (SDi), a world leader in business intelligence for analytical and life science instruments, has named the company's recently launched TruDefender™ FT as one of the top three innovative new products at PITTCON 2008. SDi used the following criteria to select the products that earned this distinction: notable technical achievements; innovation in the product's analytical approach and packaging; and the demonstration of real commercial potential.

The top three products honored by SDi included a DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) analysis system from Shimadzu Corporation; a spectrometer for the biopolymer and biotechnology markets from Horiba Jobin Yvon; and the TruDefender FT handheld Fourier-Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrometer from Ahura Scientific, Inc. Weighing less than three pounds (1.4 kg) and designed to stringent military standards for ruggedness, TruDefender FT brings the precision of FTIR spectroscopy to field applications, with a spectral resolution equivalent to bench-top instruments.

Recognized worldwide as the premiere analytical conference, PITTCON 2008 drew more than 1,100 exhibiting companies from the analytical instrumentation and services industries, with total attendance at this year's event exceeding 19,500.

"Ahura Scientific sets a new bar in terms of how a molecular spectroscopy analyzer can be cost-effectively and compactly produced," said Stuart Press, Senior Consultant for Strategic Directions International, Inc., and part of the team that selected the TruDefender FT. "The company's new TruDefender FT takes the analytical power of what was only available in a laboratory bench-top instrument just a few short years ago, and puts it into a fully self-contained, battery operated analyzer that can fit into a large pocket. We were certainly impressed."

As a major marketing intelligence provider, SDi has published more than 125 reports since 1984 and is currently in the eleventh year of publishing Instrument Business Outlook, its industry newsletter that covers all aspects of the analytical instrument industry. These activities enable SDi to monitor evolving trends across a wide range of analytical techniques that can prove invaluable on proprietary consulting assignments.

"SDi is a well-respected provider of industry information that we have found insightful in our business development and strategic market assessment efforts," said Doug Kahn, Chairman and CEO of Ahura Scientific. "We're pleased to accept this recognition from SDi as it underscores the innovations we've brought to market that truly impact the way our customers use sophisticated analytical instrumentation."

Ahura Scientific is a vanguard in the emerging market for handheld chemical detection, identification and authentication instruments. By leveraging technological innovations based upon proven fundamental spectroscopic sciences, such as Raman and FTIR, the company has created a portfolio that includes a set of features and a level of accuracy previously unavailable in a handheld unit.
