AIESEC Promoting Youth's Professional Development in Emerging Markets in Partnership With Export Development Canada

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 7, 2012) - AIESEC Canada Inc. and Export Development Canada (EDC) today announced the renewal of their 15-year partnership focused on promoting international and, more specifically, emerging market internship opportunities for students and recent graduates.

This collaboration helps AIESEC Canada's 2,600 student members gain leadership experience and participate in a global learning environment.

"The EDC partnership is instrumental in supporting AIESEC's efforts in promoting that more and more young Canadians have an international work experience in emerging markets," said Derek Vollebregt, Vice President Business Development at AIESEC Canada Inc. "Beyond financial support, since 1998 EDC has provided AIESEC with significant networking opportunities, mentorship and governance advice."

Each year during AIESEC Canada's national conference, EDC actively encourages AIESEC's members to seek exposure to emerging markets like China, India, Brazil and Russia. EDC's International Business Scholarships, which in some cases are used by students to help fund their internships abroad, are also promoted through AIESEC.

"EDC's partnership with AIESEC is designed to develop a more globally-minded student base in Canada, preparing them for the increasingly globalized business community that awaits them when they enter the work force," said Ruth Fothergill, Head of Corporate Responsibility at EDC.

"Emerging markets are quickly taking on a more significant piece of Canada's trade portfolio, and we believe that providing students with exposure and experience in these key areas of growth will have a game-changing impact on Canada's trade performance as the next generation of business leaders emerges."

AIESEC Canada sent approximately 329 Canadian students abroad in 2011, and 73% of them went to an emerging market, which allowed participants to immerse themselves in these rapidly developing countries and bring their experience back to Canada.

For over 50 years, AIESEC Canada has been facilitating a global internship program that connects Canadian companies with a global network of students and recent grads. Through their experiential learning program AIESEC is developing the next generation of global leaders. For more information please visit www.aiesec.ca.
