Air Canada Pilots Elect New Chair of Governing Council

TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - February 24, 2016) - The Master Elected Council (MEC) of the Air Canada Pilots Association (ACPA) yesterday elected Captain Kevin Vaillant as Chair for a three-year term, effective April 1, 2016.

"I would like to thank the MEC for the confidence they have shown in me, and I look forward to working with my fellow elected representatives and Air Canada for the mutual benefit of our membership and the Company," said Captain Vaillant.

Captain Vaillant is based in Toronto and is currently a 787 Captain. He has a wealth of ACPA experience, dating back to the formation of ACPA in 1995. Captain Vaillant has served on the MEC five times, and most recently was Chair of the Negotiating Committee. He has also chaired the Industrial Action Committee and been a member of the Negotiating, Scope, Grievance and External Affairs Committees. Captain Vaillant has been an Air Canada pilot since 1988, joining the airline after his military career, during which he flew the CF 104 and CF5.

As Chair, Captain Vaillant will preside over MEC meetings and act as the pilots' principal representative to Air Canada on employment matters, including negotiation and administration of their collective agreement. The Chair speaks on behalf of the MEC and he or his delegate is the official spokesperson for ACPA. The Chair will also work with the Association's new CEO, on behalf of the MEC, in pursuing the objectives and policies of the Association. Captain Vaillant's term as Chair will run until March 31, 2019.

The MEC is ACPA's governing body, directing both policy and administration of the Association. In addition to the Chair, the MEC is composed of Local Elected Council Chairs and Vice Chairs, who are elected by pilots from their home bases in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver and Winnipeg, as well as the Nationally Elected MEC Members, who are chosen by all Air Canada pilots in national elections.

The Air Canada Pilots Association (ACPA) is the largest professional pilot group in Canada, representing the more than 3,000 pilots who fly millions of passengers across Canada and around the world on Air Canada and Air Canada rouge.
