Air India Hearings to Resume April 30, 2007

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - March 23, 2007) - The Commission of Inquiry into the Investigation of the Bombing of Air India Flight 182 will resume hearing evidence on April 30, 2007.

Commission counsel Mark Freiman has briefed Commissioner John C. Major on progress to date in the production of the documents required for the public hearings based on meetings and discussions he has held with counsel for the Government of Canada. Mr. Freiman is confident that the necessary evidence will be available to begin stage two of the Inquiry.

The April 30 resumption date is necessary to provide a reasonable amount of time for counsel for the families and other Parties to the Inquiry to review the documents and prepare for the hearings.

When the public hearings resume on April 30, 2007, the Commission will hear evidence related to the period prior to the June 23, 1985 bombing. A list of witnesses will be posted on the Commission's website during the week of April 23, 2007.

In view of the update on the production of documents, the status report previously announced for March 26 is unnecessary.
