Air Quality Sciences Renews Accreditation as US Indoor Air Quality Testing Partner for Europe's Coveted Blue Angel Program for Office Equipment

Office Equipment Manufacturers Gain US Access to Air Quality Certification

ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwire - August 14, 2007) - Atlanta-based indoor air quality (IAQ) firm, Air Quality Sciences (AQS), has renewed it accreditation as the sole laboratory in the United States approved to perform office equipment emissions testing for Blue Angel, one of the oldest and most respected eco-labels in the world.

Health organizations consider poor indoor air quality one of the top environmental threats to human health and is a concern for millions of people at home, work and school. Reducing product emissions is an important health goal because exposure to indoor air pollution can lead to asthma, respiratory disease, and symptoms including headaches, eye, and nose and throat irritation.

A pioneer in product emissions testing since 1989, AQS was first accredited in 2004 and has worked with hundreds of manufacturers to reengineer their products to reduce emissions and qualify them for today's indoor environments. According to Dr. Marilyn Black, CEO and Chief Scientist at Air Quality Sciences, "AQS has been testing printers and copy machines for years. It is logical to partner with Blue Angel, one of the world's most highly reputable environmental label programs. We are proud to be working with this program and hope to advance their efforts to champion good indoor air quality."

Since 1977, Germany's Blue Angel Program has provided verification of products' environmental performance based on stringent environmental criteria. Low emitting status is one of the criteria for hard copy devices, such as printers, copiers and multifunctional machines. Emission standards were established by Germany's Federal Environmental Ministry to protect the indoor environment from airborne emissions of ozone, benzene, styrene, particles (dust) and general volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In 2006, the Blue Angel organization updated their standard to lower allowable ozone levels and to require certification of color printers and copy machines.

Air Quality Sciences, Inc. (www.aqs.com) is a fully integrated indoor air quality (IAQ) company. With in-house chemical, microbiological, and environmental chamber test labs that are both ISO 9001:2000 registered, 17025 compliant and AIHA EMLAP accredited, and with a staff of experienced building scientists and IAQ experts, AQS provides solutions to create healthy indoor environments and avoid potentially dangerous indoor pollution. The company has tested IAQ characteristics of over 40,000 products and successfully resolved indoor air pollution in more then 1,000 buildings worldwide. AQS is accredited by German Blue Angel environmental labeling program and is the technical partner for the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute, providing assistance to product manufacturers, building contractors and real estate developers who want to achieve GREENGUARD Certification for low emitting products, mold resistance and moisture management in buildings.
