Air Show Ottawa Receives Federal Support for Special Event

CARP, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 27, 2008) - The public will learn more about aviation, its role during the war years and the roles of service men and women in the Air Force at a two-day air show thanks to the support from Government of Canada.

On behalf of the Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, Cheryl Gallant, Member of Parliament for Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke, announced today a contribution to Air Show Ottawa Inc.

Funding of up to $5,000, provided through Veterans Affairs Canada's Community Engagement Partnership Fund, will support the annual air show in Carp, from June 28 to 29. This year's theme is "Supporting families of our men and women in the Armed Forces." Modern aircraft and vintage models from the First and Second World Wars will fly in the daily air shows. School children, cadets and other youth will volunteer at the event and spend time with Veterans.

"Air Show Ottawa will give young people the opportunity to meet some of our remarkable Veterans and learn more about Canada's military aviation history," said Minister Thompson. "I'm sure the event will be an unforgettable experience for all who attend."

"This fun and educational event will bring together Veterans, current servicemen and women, families and youth to remember the significance of aviation in Canada's military history," said Mrs. Gallant, who will speak at the event on June 28. "It's a great way to honour the important roles past and present servicemen and women have played in the Canadian Forces."

The Community Engagement Partnership Fund provides funding to non-profit groups, educational institutions and other organizations delivering remembrance activities and events. Administered through Veterans Affairs Canada's Canada Remembers program, contributions are made throughout the year and encompass both national and community-based projects.
