Airbnb Chooses Clerkenwell's Compton Courtyard as Base for UK Expansion

LONDON, ENGLAND--(Marketwired - July 8, 2015) - Airbnb, the online rental marketplace, is the latest tech company to choose offices in Clerkenwell over Old Street and Shoreditch locations.

The US company, founded in August 2008, has connected more than 35 million guests to unique travel experiences around the world, and has chosen Clerkenwell as its base for expansion in the UK rather than the so-called Silicon Roundabout location at Old Street.

Users of the increasingly popular community marketplace are able to list, discover and book unique accommodation including castles in more than 34,000 cities and 190 countries.

Airbnb will be moving into the 6,265 sq. ft. Penthouse of Compton Courtyard, one of Clerkenwell's most in-demand buildings over the next few months.

Daniel Cohen, of Richard Susskind & Company, which let the space, said: The unique courtyard space and stunning loft-style office accommodation made Compton Courtyard the perfect place for Airbnb's new home. This pocket of the area is proving extremely desirable to high profile tenants, with Okini, Zaha Hadid and now Airbnb here. I think the area around Compton Courtyard in particular represents the true essence of quintessential Clerkenwell.

Airbnb will be joining Okini, the online retailer of men's designer clothing, which took a 2,077 sq. ft. ground floor space at £63 per sq. ft. earlier this year. Okini Ltd, founded in September 2001, works with well-known brands and progressive designers to offer innovative products to knowledgeable fashion consumers. The company has exclusively collaborated with brands such as Adidas and Levi's to produce unique pieces.

The rental tone at Compton Courtyard has surpassed £60 per sq. ft. for all new lettings in 2015. The building which boasts a stunning and unique courtyard is owned by a private investor, who has transformed it over the years to meet the needs of the target market.
