Airspan Announces Selection of Wavecall's WaveSight Product for 3D Planning and Propagation Modeling of WiMAX Systems

BOCA RATON, FL -- (MARKET WIRE) -- December 15, 2006 -- Airspan Networks Inc. (NASDAQ: AIRN) today announced that it has made its final selection of 3D ray-tracing propagation models for use in its Fixed and Mobile WiMAX network deployments.

Airspan has chosen the WaveSight 3D model supplied by Wavecall SA of Switzerland for all RF modeling of WiMAX products in urban areas. The model is used by Airspan to plan the mass deployment of WiMAX in Urban and Suburban environments. This decision was made after extensive testing showed that the prediction accuracy of WaveSight (measured as a reduction in calibrated model standard deviation) was substantially better than that of other competing modeling products. Wavecall's responsiveness, positive customer support, and seamless integration of WaveSight into the planning tool deployed by Airspan -- Planet EV -- were other key factors in this selection.

"Wavecall's willingness to collaborate with Airspan in developing new features that exploit and model Airspan's range of WiMAX Base Stations and Client devices was an important factor in our decision," said Alastair Westgarth, Chief Technical Officer of Airspan Networks. "The fact that the WaveSight 3D model is suitable for all types of propagation environments (pico, micro and macro-cells) and that WaveSight uses well-known and open-format interfaces is extremely important to us. Accurate RF Planning is critical for the success of any network deployment, and Wavecall model allows us to set a new industry benchmark."

Commenting on this win, Karim Rizk, CEO of Wavecall, said: "Airspan's aggressive use of 3D propagation modeling in radio planning WiMAX networks and its need for high precision and accuracy in network planning were the main factors in this decision. Wavecall believes these factors are key to optimising site counts, controlling network costs, and reducing the expensive and damaging exercise of filling in previously unpredicted network holes/black-spots caused by poor prediction accuracy."

Airspan is currently using Ericsson's Planet EV and Wavecall's WaveSight to carry out 3D radio planning for large WiMAX network deployments in the UK, Japan, Australia, Malta and the US.
