Airspan Gold Sponsor at UTC Telecom 2010 Exhibiting Smart Grid Solution

Showcasing Comprehensive Solution for Utilities Including New Ruggedized WiMAX Subscriber Terminal

INDIANAPOLIS, IN--(Marketwire - May 24, 2010) -  Airspan Networks Inc., a leading provider of broadband wireless access networks, announced today its sponsorship of the Utilities Telecom Council (UTC) Telecom 2010 show and the introduction of a new ruggedized, vehicle-mounted subscriber terminal to complement an already comprehensive Smart Grid network infrastructure solution. The show is being held in the Indianapolis Convention Center through May 25, 2010.

Airspan has adapted their mature WiMAX technology to fit applications requiring vehicle connectivity within their network, creating a ruggedized, Wi-Fi enabled, vehicle mounted subscriber terminal. This unique unit, called MRT (mobile radio transmitter), allows for real-time information exchange, fleet management, surveillance and vehicle tracking.

The MRT adds to a broad offering of WiMAX units that enable Utilities to easily overlay their power grids with next-generation, WiMAX technologies. These IP based networks, called Smart Grids, increase automation, management and control while improving operational efficiency and reliability. The Smart Grid optimizes the utility's assets and communicates customer usage information in real-time, enables consumer participation, and enhances overall system dependability, security and quality.

All UTC attendees are invited to visit the Airspan Booth #251 to view the new MRT as well as the rest of the Airspan product portfolio.

Utilities benefit from the following Airspan features:

  • Real-time applications and services (Voice, Video and datacasting)
  • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) -- real-time data gathering from remote locations
  • Robust two-way broadband connectivity with Quality of Service (QoS) for real-time services
  • Certified and Interoperable -- based on certification IOT testing of the WiMAX Forum
  • Mature technology, already in service with thousands of carriers and private networks worldwide
  • Macro, Micro and Pico infrastructure optimized for deployment on company's existing poles and installation sites
  • End-to-end authentication and inherent high-end security

"Airspan is appearing at, and proud to sponsor the UTC Telecom 2010 event, to address the growing communications needs of the utilities market. We have been working with several utilities to streamline and perfect our Smart Grid solution for a worldwide growing market. In the United States, the government has included $11 billion in the stimulus act to support smart grid deployment by utilities. This has stepped up the time table for deploying these types of networks," commented Amit Ancikovsky, President of Sales and Products.

Airspan provides Fixed and Mobile WiMAX solutions operating on the 700 MHz all the way up to the 5.4/8 GHz frequency bands.
