Airspan Partners With Pinnacle Wireless for One of the Nation's Largest WiMAX Highway Projects

Deploying 4G Broadband Monitoring System Along Primary New Jersey Highways

BOCA RATON, FL--(Marketwire - October 21, 2010) -  Airspan Networks Inc., a leading provider of broadband wireless access networks, announced today that the company, through partner Pinnacle Wireless, has been selected by the New Jersey Transit Authority (NJTA) for a statewide deployment to enable monitoring, control and communications along the two main New Jersey highways.

The project consists of over 100 WiMAX sectors operating in the 4.9 GHz band to be deployed along 360 miles of the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway. Both highways support a combined 600 million drivers each year and comprise one of the busiest segments of I-95. Implementing Airspan's advanced technology HiperMAX base stations, the NJTA will use the network for a variety of applications such as variable message signs, traffic monitoring, CCTV cameras and roadway weather information systems.

"In our review of the market and the available technology offerings, we found that Airspan clearly offered the best solution," commented Michael Hayford, President of Pinnacle Wireless. "With a Software Defined Radio platform, Airspan's solution provided us the assurance that our customers are investing in future-proof technology. Additionally, Airspan had a clear understanding of the technological as well as budgetary requirements of the project."

"Pinnacle Wireless has been a long-standing Airspan partner and we are excited to work with them on this project," added Amit Ancikovsky, President of Sales and Products. "This deployment has many unique requirements and Airspan was able to present a sound, robust and reliable solution that took into consideration the cost of ownership and state budget limitations. The NJTA will be able to quickly complete this project ensuring the increased safety and convenience of millions of drivers."

In addition to this project, Pinnacle and Airspan have partnered on a number of key New Jersey WiMAX ventures including public safety networks for Hudson County and the City of Harrison as well as deploying WiMAX networks for the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority with communications coverage of Meadowlands and Monmouth Park.

"Pinnacle is confident that the projects they have initiated in their home state, New Jersey, will not only serve the residents and increase their safety, but have also stimulated the economy through job growth," added Ancikovsky.

Airspan provides 4G solutions operating in the 700 MHz up to the 5.4/8 GHz frequency bands.
