Airspan Signs US$10 Million WipLL Expansion Contract in India With Tulip IT

BOCA RATON, FL -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 11, 2006 -- Airspan Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: AIRN), a leading worldwide provider of WiMAX and Wi-Fi based broadband wireless access networks, and carrier class Voice-over-Internet protocol (VoIP) solutions, announced the signing of a $10 million expansion contract for a WipLL-based broadband data network for Tulip IT Services Ltd in India.

Under this contract with Tulip, Airspan will deliver more than 25,000 WipLL subscriber units and related infrastructure throughout 2006 in equal monthly deliveries.

Tulip is using the WipLL network to supply high speed Internet access services from 64Kbits - 2Mbits, capable of delivering video conferencing, e-mail and web browsing solutions, and hosting FTP / web server solutions for the business and residential markets. The WipLL equipment is operating in the 2.7-2.9Ghz band frequencies, for which Tulip has radio license rights across the whole of India.

Lt. Col. H.S. Bedi, VSM, Managing Director, Tulip IT Services Ltd, stated: "Tulip has always been a thought-leader and innovator in identifying growth and expansion opportunities in a dynamic business environment. India finds itself in the middle of an economic boom with strong business and industrial growth. Unlike the past, this growth is not restricted to the metros and major cities alone, but across the country. This has created an unprecedented demand by the Indian industry for secure, reliable and expandable Data connectivity. Tulip pioneered the deployment of large-scale wireless connectivity with Airspan's WipLL product in a cost-effective manner, and this expertise has enabled us to roll out TULIP CONNECT, India's most extensive data-connectivity network offering wireless for last mile connectivity in over 350 cities."

"We are excited to be part of Tulip's success in expanding its wireless broadband offering throughout India," said Henrik Smith Petersen, Airspan's President Asia Pacific. "We have been working with Tulip since 2002, and the current expansion clearly proves that our WipLL product provides a very cost effective and reliable platform in this completive Indian market for wireless broadband access."

Airspan's WipLL platform is a low-cost, high-performance Fixed Wireless Access system designed to deliver high-speed data, Voice over IP (VoIP) and multimedia services to residential, small business and enterprise customers. WipLL is capable of delivering burst data speeds of up to 4 Mbps (3.2Mbps net) to each customer. WipLL introduces real-time adaptive modulation (2-, 4-, 8-level FSK) and auto retransmission request (ARQ); features that offer high quality services whilst maximizing spectrum utilization. WipLL is available in both licensed bands (including 700 MHz, 2.5GHz, 2.7-2.9GHz and 3.4-3.8GHz) and unlicensed bands (including 900MHz, 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz).
