AirTight Networks Announces Security Coverage for Pre-Standard 802.11n APs

Solutions Cover Pre-Standard APs From All Major Manufacturers

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 22, 2006 -- AirTight Networks™, the leading provider of wireless perimeter security solutions, today announced that SpectraGuard® Enterprise will detect and correctly identify pre-standard 802.11n APs, which create a potential wireless security risk. As the first and only company to have announced this important capability, AirTight Networks leads the industry in providing both a robust, scaleable, manageable wireless intrusion prevention system (WIPS) solution.

APs supporting non-standard transmission modes are a potential security threat because an attack launched using a non-standard transmission mode may go undetected by some wireless IDS/IPS systems. SpectraGuard Enterprise will detect and identify pre-standard 802.11n APs from a variety of manufacturers -- that implement a variety of pre-standard "accelerated" transmission techniques. These APs are based on chipsets from a variety of manufacturers such as Airgo, Atheros, and Broadcom. Once identified, SpectraGuard Enterprise will then alert the administrator to their presence, locate these devices, and prevent authorized enterprise users from communicating with them.

With this industry first, AirTight again helps the enterprise secure itself from rogue APs that other WIDS (wireless intrusion detection systems) or WIPS (wireless intrusion prevention systems) solutions simply do not detect. The key benefit is securing the enterprise from data loss that can cost it millions of dollars -- whether that is company data, customer data, or financial information.

AirTight Networks' SpectraGuard Enterprise has established its industry leadership position by delivering the key elements of an effective wireless intrusion prevention system (WIPS):

-- detecting and correctly classifying wireless threats - to catch all
    threats, while minimizing false alarms
-- preventing (multiple, simultaneous) wireless threats - while
continuing to scan for new ones
-- accurately locating the wireless threats on a floor map - so they can
    be removed.
As wireless usage is now commonplace, these patented capabilities, along with the wireless management capabilities now embedded in all of AirTight's products, are critical to ensuring the cost-effective, secure, reliable performance of any enterprise network infrastructure.

"This announcement reinforces AirTight's position as the leader in the wireless intrusion prevention system (WIPS) market," said Dennis Tsu, vice president of marketing at AirTight Networks. "AirTight is the only vendor to have the capability to correctly identify, prevent, and locate pre-standard 802.11n APs -- ensuring the safety, security, and integrity of an enterprise's network and their data."

AirTight Networks' family of products include SpectraGuard® Enterprise, SpectraGuard Sentry, SpectraGuard Planner, and SpectraGuard SAFE (Security Agent For Endpoints) products. As shown in the recently released Tolly Group report and the March 2006 Information Security magazine bake-off, AirTight's SpectraGuard Enterprise outperforms its competitors in wireless intrusion prevention functionality.

This capability to detect pre-standard 802.11n APs is available to customers now. Pricing for SpectraGuard Enterprise starts at $7500. A SpectraGuard Enterprise solution -- to protect and manage an enterprise's wireless network can be installed for under $2 per user per month -- a cost that would be quickly re-paid in wireless network performance and savings.
