AJC Radio Program Announcement -- Spotlight On Capitol Hill... Where A Just Cause Puts the Spotlight on Members of Congress and Their Legislation; This Week -- Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)

Spotlight on Capitol Hill Gives Listeners an In-Depth Look at Initiatives and the Legislative Agenda of Our Elected Officials in Washington, D.C., Says Advocacy Group, A Just Cause

DENVER, CO--(Marketwired - August 06, 2015) - AJC Radio airs a weekly segment called "Spotlight On Capitol Hill." The segment allows AJC Radio to shine the spotlight on members of Congress from a positive perspective that allows for an upbeat review of legislation that covers a broad spectrum of initiatives. The program format allows listeners to weigh in and have lively dialogue with the AJC Radio team.

Advocacy group, A Just Cause, announces today that the Thursday, August 6, 2015 segment of AJC Radio's, "Spotlight On Capitol Hill" will be shining the spotlight on U.S. Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (www.AJCRadio.com, 8-10PM ET).

"'Spotlight On Capitol Hill' is gaining momentum and we will continue to bring our listening audience information about the excellent work being done by members of both the House and the Senate," says Lamont Banks, A Just Cause Executive Director. "We've done spotlights on notable members of the House and Senate like Congressman Charles Rangel (D-NY), Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY), Congressman Cedric Richmond (D-LA), Congressman Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), and Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT). Congressman Rangel actually took the time to do an interview with AJC Radio, which was an excellent opportunity for AJC Radio listeners to hear first-hand from a key figure on Capitol Hill," adds Banks. "Granted, we might not have the opportunity to always bring our listeners a one-on-one interview, but we do everything within our power to share as much information as possible about the Senate or House of Representatives," Banks concludes.

"This week we have chosen to shine the spotlight on Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi of California, who is a pioneer in Washington, D.C." Banks explains. "AJC Radio will recognize her 27 years of service, with the highpoint of serving as the first female Speaker of the House in American history," says Banks.

President Barack Obama called Speaker Pelosi "an extraordinary leader for the American people," and the Christian Science Monitor wrote: "...make no mistake: Nancy Pelosi is the most powerful woman in American politics and the most powerful House Speaker since Sam Rayburn a half century ago" (https://pelosi.house.gov/biography/biography).

She has championed issues like creating jobs at home, affordable access to college education, and is the longest standing member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, serving 10 years, which is the longest continuous period of service in committee history. In addition, Congresswoman Pelosi is a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee and has previously served on Committee on Standards of Official Conduct (Ethics) and the Banking & Financial Services Committee.

As a member of the House Permanent Select Committee, Congresswoman Pelosi worked to ensure that policymakers and military commanders are provided with the timely and accurate intelligence necessary to guide diplomatic initiatives, succeed in combat, and protect U.S. military forces. In meetings around the world with U.S. and foreign intelligence leaders, Pelosi has urged greater attention to the threats to international security posed by the proliferation of technologies associated with weapons of mass destruction and global terrorism. In the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks, Pelosi led congressional reviews of the U.S. intelligence and security agencies and authored legislation to create an independent national commission to assess the overall performance of the federal government before, during, and after the attacks (https://pelosi.house.gov/biography/biography).

Pelosi has long been an advocate for human rights around the world. She has fought to improve China's human rights record, attempting to tie trade to increased human rights standards. A leader on the environment at home and abroad, Pelosi secured passage of a provision in the International Development and Finance Act of 1989 which requires the World Bank and all the regional multilateral development banks to review the potential environmental impacts of development projects for which they provide funding and to make these environmental assessments publicly available. Known as the "Pelosi Amendment," it has become a significant tool for indigenous peoples and non-governmental organizations around the world. (https://pelosi.house.gov/biography/biography).

AJC Radio will spotlight Bills/Resolutions sponsored or co-sponsored by Congresswoman Pelosi including, but not limited to legislation regarding education, health care, national security, housing, human rights, jobs, energy, and the environment.

"We make every effort to get a Representative or Senator on the air, but as everyone knows their schedules are pretty hectic. That being said, I encourage the listeners to tune in, because just as Congressman Rangel appeared on the program for a one-on-one interview, you never know what surprise guest might be on the air," Banks concludes.
