Akimbi Systems Joins VMware Community Source Program to Enhance Akimbi Slingshot Support for VMware Virtual Infrastructure

Collaborative Development to Result in Performance, Functionality and Ease-of-Use Advantages to Akimbi Slingshot Users

SAN MATEO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 21, 2006 -- Akimbi Systems, the global leader in Virtual Lab Automation Solutions, today announced it has joined the VMware Community Source program, an innovative collaborative development effort that provides open technology access to the source code and APIs for VMware ESX Server. The program combines the best elements of open source and enterprise development allowing partners to boost the level of functionality and slash the time to market of virtualization solutions for their customers. Akimbi will use access to VMware source code to optimize Akimbi Slingshot's capabilities, performance and ease-of-use for deployment alongside VMware virtual infrastructure.

"It's exciting to have Akimbi as part of the VMware Community Source program," said Bernie Mills, senior director of developer programs at VMware. "Virtual Lab Automation is a compelling solution for VMware customers and we are looking forward to continued innovation from Akimbi as an important member of our development ecosystem."

Akimbi Slingshot, Akimbi's flagship Virtual Lab Automation System, paired with VMware virtual infrastructure software, enables enterprise application development and test organizations to centralize then share servers, storage and networking equipment between distributed software development teams. Using Akimbi Slingshot's browser-based, self-service interface, software developers and QA professionals can check out resources from this shared pool on demand, instantly restoring the servers to any desired state -- including operating systems, software, data and network interconnections.

Leading Global 2000 enterprises including Intel, Symantec, Coldwater Creek, and Experian have deployed Akimbi Slingshot on VMware virtual infrastructure to increase their return on investment in test lab capital equipment, accelerate the development and enhancement of enterprise applications, and improve the quality and availability of business-critical software systems.

"Source access will accelerate our ability to add value to VMware's industry-leading virtual infrastructure platform," said Wilson Huang, founder and vice president of engineering at Akimbi Systems. "In addition, it will enable the creation of a console control for ESX Server, an Akimbi fenced mode driver for ESX Server, and a series of Akimbi Tools plug-ins that directly interact with the VMware Virtual BIOS. These enhancements will mean better functionality, higher performance and increased ease-of-use for customers that choose to run Akimbi Slingshot on VMware virtual infrastructure software."

Akimbi will release an upgrade to Akimbi Slingshot incorporating features and performance gains enabled by VMware Community Source membership in the second half of 2006.
