A. Alan Post Receives Lifetime Achievement Award at League of California Cities Annual Conference

SACRAMENTO, CA--(Marketwire - September 7, 2007) - A. Alan Post, who spent 27 years as California's chief legislative analyst and is a founding director of the Public Policy Institute of California, was honored with the League of California Cities Past Presidents' Lifetime Achievement Award today, at the League's annual conference in Sacramento.

Former League President Pat Eklund presented the award to Post.

"Alan is respected by both sides of the aisle because he focused on the principle, not the politics," Eklund explained. "He resisted offers from governors to leave the legislative analyst's office for other positions because he felt strongly he could serve California best by remaining an independent voice. We are all grateful that influence was exercised with courage, careful analysis and nonpartisan integrity."

Post's remarks centered on the enjoyment he found in his career as legislative analyst, thanking his family and colleagues for their help throughout the years.

"It's been a wonderful tour of duty," Post said. "I loved every minute of it. It's an honor to receive this award."

The League's Past Presidents' Lifetime Achievement Award was established in 1996 and is given annually to an individual who has made a significant and unique contribution to the state or to his or her community over an extended period of years. Preference is given to nominees with close ties to cities; however, nominees may also be selected from the categories of local government leaders, academicians/teachers, authors, media producers, community leaders and state or national leaders.

The League of California Cities was established by and for city officials in 1898 to provide opportunities for members to meet and exchange ideas, set policies, and advocate for legislation that protects and upholds the principle of local control.
