Alan Vernon Is Dining to Tell

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 23, 2011) - Veteran food critic Alan A. Vernon is joining the Dine.TO team, and followers, old and new, stand to benefit magnificently from the development. Vernon's column, Dining to Tell, will showcase the no-nonsense, plain-speak style that has long made him a favourite among GTA food enthusiasts.

For almost 20 years—starting with his Bread & Circuses column at Xtra, and extending to his most recent critical gigs at Eye Weekly and toronto.com (where he was editorial director for 10 years), along with appearances on Breakfast Television and other foodie TV shows—Vernon has been directing Torontonians to those hip local-area establishments with the best eats. Sidestepping the more populist approach to restaurant criticism that presumes everyone on the receiving end is a sophisticated foodie, Vernon prides himself on offering readers clear, practical summaries of the establishment in question.

"It's really important to write reviews in such a way that people will walk away from the article and know exactly the kind of experience they can expect," says Vernon, who will also be preparing podcasts for Dine.TO (an exciting and unique approach to restaurant reviewing that the site has undertaken). "More than anything, I want to let people understand what they'll get for their hard-earned money and be entertained at the same time."

For Dine.TO's part, we are delighted to have Vernon on board. "This is service journalism, after all," says Dine.TO president and CEO Stratos Papachristopoulos. "Ideally, a restaurant review should provide readers with the information they need to make an informed decision about where to spend their dining dollars. Alan is all about that."
