Alation Customer eBay to Present Benefits of Governed Self-Service Analysis at Strata + Hadoop World 2016

REDWOOD CITY, CA--(Marketwired - Mar 22, 2016) - Alation, Inc., the collaborative data company, today announced that its customer eBay will present a session on how eBay analyst teams are leveraging Alation for governed self-service analysis at Strata + Hadoop World 2016. Taking place March 29-31 at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, Calif., Strata + Hadoop World 2016 will also showcase Alation as a sponsor, exhibitor and presenter, with demos of its collaborative data platform at booth #741.

Debora Seys, senior product manager at eBay, will present on how one of the world's oldest, largest and most complex data environments is moving from a traditional approach to governing analytic processes through heavily engineered metadata systems, to the new world of self-service analysis. eBay, an Alation customer, has successfully transitioned to a system in which data is governed collaboratively through a combination of machine-learned guidance, asynchronous collaboration and a shared data catalog.

With Alation's SmartSuggest™ technology, eBay analysts have increased their analytic productivity. Alation SmartSuggest is software that observes and learns from the activities performed in the natural course of analysis by data stewards, subject experts and analysts themselves. Analyzing these signals with machine learning algorithms, Alation automatically creates a rich knowledge base that then feeds a just-in-time smart suggestion experience for all data consumers. eBay will share its results using Alation for governed self-service analysis, which include broader use of data by analysts, analytic productivity increases, and increased re-use of trusted and validated data.

Additionally, Aaron Kalb, head of product at Alation, will present a session on modern data catalogs. He will cover how to build a catalog that improves the experience and productivity of data analysts, data scientists and other data consumers. A data catalog provides context to help users quickly find relevant datasets, determine the trust-level, understand the meaning and put data to use to make better decisions.
