Alberta Freestyle Rider Kira-Nicole Lengkeek Earns Top 5 Finish at FIS Snowboard Junior World Championships in Yabuli China

Kira-Nicole Lengkeek is proving there is a bright future ahead for women's freestyle snowboarding.

The 16 year old rider from Airdrie Alberta has been snowboarding for the past 10 years. 5 years ago she joined the Riders on Board Snowboard Club and began training in both the halfpipe and slopestyle disciplines. Her hard work and dedication is translating into impressive results on the hill.

2014 was a strong year for her in the halfpipe, where she took 1st place at both the Alberta Provincials and Canadian Junior Nationals. In March 2015 she had the exciting opportunity to travel to Yabuli China and represent Canada at the FIS Snowboard Junior World Championships.

At World Juniors this past week Kira-Nicole qualified 8th overall in the halfpipe to earn her a spot in the finals. In the finals she had an strong first run score of 52.00, and improved on her second run with a 56.75 to lock down 5th place overall.

This finish was the top freestyle result of the Canadians and earned her a coveted spot for the 2016 Youth Olympic Winter Games next year in Lillehammer, Norway.
