Alberta's Ride for Sight, the longest running motorcycle charity event, is taking a new turn in 2010. The weekend fundraiser, which raises funds for the Foundation Fighting Blindness, will be moving to Stoney Nakoda Resort & Casino, located just west of Calgary, at the entrance to Kananaskis Country and the gateway to the Canadian Rockies. The Alberta Ride for Sight will take place June 12th and 13th, 2010.

"The new location is a perfect destination for anyone wishing to enjoy a weekend getaway with breathtaking scenery and plenty of activities to enjoy," said Bonny Lackey, Ambassador, Alberta Ride for Sight. "The property offers beautiful roads for riding, ample free camping, a fabulous indoor swimming pool complete with waterslide, great food and restaurants, and so much more."

Money raised from Ride for Sight goes to the Foundation Fighting Blindness, a national charity funding vision research to hospitals and universities across Canada. It's currently funding an innovative project involving researchers at the University of Calgary. The project aims to restore sight to people living with vision loss due to retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration and related conditions.

Anyone who raises $50 or more in donations will receive a wristband to enjoy all of the non-stop entertainment, including a concert by legendary Canadian rock band, Chilliwack! Other highlights of the weekend include; Bike Games, Show n' Shine, The Canadian Chaos Freestyle Stunt Team, Vendor Marketplace, and an organized motorcycle tour along some of the most stunning and scenic roads that the area offers. The essence of the weekend celebration is the traditional motorcycle parade that will depart on Saturday morning (June 13th), from departure points in Calgary, Edmonton and Red Deer en route to Stoney Nakoda Resort & Casino

Ride for Sight Nationwide

Last year, Ride for Sight participants nationwide raised over $1.1 million in donations for the Foundation Fighting Blindness; 100% of donations raised goes to the Foundation Fighting Blindness, which funds research into the causes, treatments and cures of eye diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa and age-related macular degeneration, the two leading causes of blindness among children and seniors, respectively.

Alberta supporters accounted for more than $145,000 of that money. Ride for Sight takes place in seven regions across the country and is the longest running motorcycle charity fundraiser in Canada. Since it began 32 years ago in Central Ontario, it has raised more than $17 million.
