Alberta Soccer Association: Successful Mediation Leads to a Single Organization Representing Youth Soccer in Edmonton

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Nov. 30, 2007) - The Alberta Soccer Association (the "ASA"), the Edmonton Minor Soccer Association ("EMSA") and the Edmonton Interdistrict Youth Soccer Association ("EIYSA") are pleased to announce that SOCCER EDMONTON will be the new unified organization that will represent all youth soccer in Edmonton.

Background

ASA, EMSA and EIYSA reached an agreement in principle during a mediation process, led by a retired judge, this week. While work remains to complete the process and create SOCCER EDMONTON, including the need for the approval of the parties' boards of directors and membership, the parties have expressed confidence that the goal of forming a single organization to represent youth soccer interests in Edmonton will be achieved.

SOCCER EDMONTON will include

- the six organizations, who represent community soccer at the zone level today; and

- a seventh organization, CLUB SOCCER EDMONTON, who will exclusively represent the players and clubs at the Tier 1 and Tier 2 levels.

EIYSA and EMSA clubs and organizations that currently play at the Tier 1 and Tier 2 levels will be able join CLUB SOCCER EDMONTON.

EIYSA and EMSA are working together on the details of the new organization. They anticipate that SOCCER EDMONTON will be operational by the start of the outdoor season in 2008.

ASA, EIYSA and EMSA wish to express their thanks to the mediator, the Hon. Marguerite Trussler, for her valuable efforts in facilitating a process through which EMSA and EIYSA can achieve a unified body to administer youth soccer in Edmonton.

Fred Kern, President of the ASA, said "The ASA is pleased that Edmonton soccer will be unified in representing the interests of youth soccer players in Edmonton."

Mario Charpentier, President of EMSA, said "In SOCCER EDMONTON, we look forward to building a new future for soccer for all young players in Edmonton."

John Matemisz, President of EIYSA, said "SOCCER EDMONTON will help young soccer players to succeed at the highest levels of the sport."
