Alberta Sweet 16 Sweetens the Summer in Central Alberta!

Summer 2008 brings 16 terrific weekends of festivals, rodeos, family events and more, in one of Alberta's most welcoming areas.

RED DEER, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - June 16, 2008) - Nine fun, friendly communities have joined up to offer vacationers the Alberta Sweet 16, a lineup featuring 16 terrific summer weekends of festivals, rodeos, family events and more, in one of the province's most welcoming areas.

From May to September, the partners of the new Central Alberta Tourism Committee invite travellers to celebrate summer in every way imaginable. Take in the down-home hospitality of nine Central Alberta communities, which combine their attractions to make the heart of Alberta the perfect vacation destination.

Using the city of Red Deer as a convenient hub, summer adventurers can get off to a fun start with a visit to Westerner Days, July 16-20. This yearly old-time town and country fair has become a summertime classic, offering everything from a parade, petting zoos and live country music to chuckwagon races and a creative arts pavilion.

Look skyward to the Wetaskiwin Air Show, July 26-27, where the famous Canadian Forces Snowbirds and other aerobatic daredevils swoop overhead for a breathtaking experience. Then mosey down the road to the Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site, for a stop into the newly renovated visitors' centre. Learn about Canada's proud fur trade heritage and enjoy special exhibits, a new theatre, a gift shop and more.

Mellow out in scenic Sylvan Lake, August 14-17, for Jazz at the Lake, a family-friendly festival that will get everyone swinging. Now in its sixth year, this special musical offering celebrates jazz in its finest forms, even offering a children's concert to encourage a new generation of fans.

Of course, no Central Alberta vacation is complete without the rodeos and stampedes that proudly brand the province's cowboy roots. Make the rounds to see the toughest riders and ropers take on the rawest livestock around. The circuit kicks off June 4-8 in Rocky Mountain House with the 36th annual Rocky Pro Rodeo, then celebrates the July long weekend with the Ponoka Stampede, Canada's largest seven-day pro rodeo. July 4-6 take in the action of the Benalto Rodeo, and round out the fun at the Bentley Rodeo, August 8 & 9.

A great holiday is just a click away. Log onto to plan a dynamic getaway that can only be a Central Alberta adventure.
