Albertan Organ Recipient to Take on World Climbing Record to Help Two Quebec Foundations!

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - April 12, 2012) - Officially launched as part of the National Organ and Tissue Donor Week, the goal of Défi 2012 - Accrochez-vous à la vie [Challenge 2012 - Grab onto Life] is to scale one of the highest mountain peaks in the world, in Tibet, without porters, technical support or the help of extra oxygen.

Two Quebec athletes will thus be accompanying the president of the Canadian Association of Transplant Patients, Mr. David Smith. All donations received from the sponsors and the general public will go directly to the Fondation Lina Cyr, to benefit Maison des greffés du Québec and Fondation des pompiers du Québec pour les grands brûlés.

The guide for this expedition, Martin Boiteau, couldn't put it more clearly: "We're leaving the political squabbling between the East and the West of the country to the politicians. We're here to show that solidarity and mutual assistance have no boundaries!"

His teammate, Philippe Blanchette Nagy, is the union director for the Association des pompiers de Montréal and specializes in rescues in rock crevices and mountainous terrain.

The three athletes already have numerous climbs in Europe, Central and South America and Asia to their credit. Their expertise will be truly put to the test because, since 1990, the Tibetan summit they are preparing to take on, Shishapangma, has killed 17% of the climbers who reached, or were about to reach, its summit!
