The second annual Canadian Worker of the Year award, created by Dickies Canada, is Robert Richardson, a hard working gas utility operator from Calgary, Alberta.

Robert was announced as the nation-wide winner in front of a near capacity crowd at the Kawartha Speedway during the lead up to the season-ending NASCAR race held there on the weekend of September 26th. Dickies Canada is the key sponsor of the Dave Whitlock Dodge Avenger Team.

"I'm having a hard time breathing," said Robert, right after his name was announced on the racetrack by Dickies Canada Vice-President of Marketing, Bill McFarlane. "This is unbelievable! I'm really pleased and really shocked. All the finalists were so great," Robert said.

Standing nearby on the track was Robert's wife and nominator, Sarah Phillips. She smiled and then began to cry as Robert hoisted the Canadian Worker of the Year trophy to thunderous applause from the crowd assembled at the racetrack's finish line.

"He is so deserving of this," she said. "He works really hard and I know he'll be a great spokesman for Dickies Work Wear."

As Canadian Worker of the Year, Robert will be awarded a 2009 Dodge Ram pick-up truck and will also appear in the Dickies 2010 Work Wear catalogue. He along with the three other regional finalists and their wives, were given VIP treatment in Toronto and later at the Kawartha Speedway in Peterborough.

Robert and the other regional finalists, Dwayne MacDonald from Prince Edward Island, Wayne Zarowny from Ontario, and Ken Ziegler from Saskatchewan, all received a Bosch cordless tool set and a prize pack of Dickies guaranteed quality work wear apparel.

"The Canadian Worker of the Year is getting bigger and better every year because it recognizes and celebrates the spirit and work ethic of Canada's work force," said McFarlane. "All of our finalists, and so many of the other entries nationwide, were really excellent. Making the decision was tough for the judges, but I know Robert was a great choice."

The search was open to all Canadian citizens, and individuals who could nominate themselves or someone they felt was deserving of recognition. The four regional finalists were selected by a panel of judges on September 11th, 2008, assembled by Dickies Canada.
