Ald. Tunney Selected to Receive Presence Saint Joseph Hospital's 2015 Inspire Award for Community Service

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - Mar 2, 2015) - Today, Presence Saint Joseph Hospital announced that Hon. Tom Tunney, Alderman of Chicago's 44th Ward, has been selected to receive the hospital's 2015 Inspire Award for Community Service.

The award, presented annually, recognizes community leaders or organizations exemplifying Presence Health Hospital's position regarding the well-being of the community. "Since his historic election in 2003, Alderman Tunney has been a tireless public servant," said Roberta Luskin-Hawk, MD, President and CEO of Presence Saint Joseph Hospital. "He is trusted to listen to all points of view and relied upon to bring people together around reasonable solutions that balance the needs of the community," she added. According to Dr. Luskin-Hawk, because of Ald. Tunney's vision for an inclusive, cooperative environment, Lakeview has become known as a welcoming neighborhood where residents, businesses and public leaders work together to advance the common good.

Alderman Tunney has been instrumental in establishing the Lakeview neighborhood as a thriving center for world-class health care. In collaboration with other government and community leaders, he has helped bring new advanced healthcare facilities to the Ward, including the Presence Center for Advanced Care on the northeast corner of Sheridan and Surf, currently under construction and scheduled to open in September of this year.

Ald. Tunney's cooperative efforts have also led to the expansion of critical social services including, new affordable housing and supportive services for seniors, along with community enhancements including park improvements and Divvy bike stations that make healthy lifestyle choices easier and accessible for area residents.

In addition, Alderman Tunney's dedication to projects that create and maintain jobs has helped hundreds of new businesses open their doors in the Ward. Tunney has become known as a champion for entrepreneurs and small businesses throughout the city in his leadership role as chairman of the City Council's Committee on Economic, Capital & Technology Development.
