Alderwoods Group Launches Operation Sweaters for Veterans

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 26, 2005) -

Clothing drive campaign aims to collect thousands of sweaters for local war veterans

Alderwoods Group, Inc. is pleased to host Operation Sweaters for Veterans from November 1-10, 2005. This is the second consecutive year that Alderwoods has participated in this worthwhile endeavor.

All participating locations in the Greater Chicago Area listed below will offer their premises as a drop off point for new or gently used men and women's sweaters for our heroes in local V.A. Hospitals and Veterans Homes. Drop off boxes are open every weekday, anytime from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Participating locations are also pleased to offer a drive-thru feature in their parking lots throughout the morning on Saturday, November 5, 2005. Community members are encouraged to drive-thru, drop off their donation and pick up a complimentary coffee and donut, as a token of appreciation.

Nationwide, more than 200,000 veterans are homeless on any given night and twice as many veterans may experience homelessness during their lifetime. Over 850,000 veterans reside in the state of Illinois, many of them of limited means. In fact, according to the 2004 Veterans Affairs Challenge Report, nearly 3,000 veterans are chronically homeless in the state of Illinois. The goal of Operation Sweaters for Veterans is to provide warm clothing to those in need this coming winter.
