Aleksandr Dovzhenko Wins $400,000 Guaranteed Mediterranean Poker Cup

Ukrainian Poker Player Wins EUR 104,700 At EUR 2,500 Buy In Main Event In Cyprus

Ukrainian poker player Aleksandr Dovzhenko has won the Mediterranean Poker Cup main event which concluded at the five-star Hotel Merit Girne, Crystal Cove, Cyprus over the weekend.

Dovzhenko beat Gutkin Maksim of Russia heads up in the $400,000 guaranteed, $2,500 buy in main event which attracted 153 players from around the Mediterranean, Europe, Russia, Ukraine, and the Middle East.

The final hand of the tournament, with blinds at 10,000/20,000 and an ante of 2,000, saw Gutkin check a flop of 10c 6c 3h and Dovzhenko bet 60,000.

Gutkin then went all in and Dovzhenko called showing 8c 7c for a flush draw. Gutkin held 10h 10d for top set. An ace blanked the turn but the 5c on the river sealed it for Dovzhenko.

The Ukrainian said after his victory, "This is the best tournament I've ever played. I'm glad I won for sure but the organization all week has been fantastic and the hotel and surroundings are world class. It's a beautiful place and I'm already looking forward to the next Poker Club Management event."
