Alex Lane Offers Advice on Avoiding DUIs During Football Championship Weekend

Alex Lane, a Criminal Defense Attorney in Phoenix, Arizona, Offers Advice on Avoiding DUI Charges During Football Championship Weekend and Throughout the Year; Alex Lane Represents Those Accused of DUI as Well as Those Facing Other Criminal Charges

PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwired - Jan 31, 2015) - Alex Lane, an attorney in Phoenix, Arizona, has represented many people accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, and he notes that some times of the year see spikes in DUI arrests. "During the holidays, especially on the weekends, there are always more DUI patrols," notes Lane, "and you are more likely to run into a DUI checkpoint than at other times of the year." One of the weekends that sees a surge in DUI arrests, according to Lane, is the weekend of the football championship game when friends gather for parties. "This Sunday will likely see a marked increase in drunk driving arrests," says Alex Lane.

Lane, who has been practicing in Phoenix since 2004, gained experience in DUI cases as a prosecutor for the Vehicular Crimes Unit of the Maricopa County Attorney's office. While there, he prosecuted Felony DUI/DWI cases as well as other crimes. He has seen firsthand the surge in DUI arrests at certain times of the year and offers advice to those who will be attending gatherings this weekend.

"The most important thing to remember is that in Arizona any amount of alcohol consumption can result in a DUI charge if you get behind the wheel," says Lane. "Many people believe that if their blood alcohol content does not measure exactly .08 percent they cannot be charged, but this is not true. Arizona observes an 'impaired to the slightest degree' rule that can result in a charge even without a .08 BAC measurement."

"Therefore, the best way to avoid a DUI is to refrain from drinking if you are going to drive and refrain from driving if you are going to drink," says Lane. He also advises those who will be attending parties to make a designated driver plan before arriving at the party or plan to stay overnight. "Only time sobers you up when you have been drinking," says Lane.

For those who have been arrested for DUI, it is important to seek legal representation. "Trying to defend yourself in a DUI case is a very bad idea," says Lane. "You need the help of a defense attorney, even for your first DUI."
