Alex Ovechkin to Participate in Sochi Olympic Torch Relay Ceremony

To Be First Russian to Carry Olympic Flame

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Sep 26, 2013) - Washington Capitals Captain and Ambassador for Sochi 2014 Olympic Games, Alex Ovechkin will travel to Olympia, Greece to participate in the Olympic Flame Lighting Ceremonies and the start of the Olympic Torch Relay. As part of the ceremonies upon the invitation of Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, Ovechkin will be the first Russian and second person to carry the Olympic flame. 

As a Jury member of Coca-Cola Torchbearers Nomination campaign, Ovechkin participated in the selection of those active people who will carry the Olympic Flame in OTR Sochi 2014.

Ovechkin is scheduled to travel to Olympia, Greece, following the Capitals home game against Philadelphia on Friday, September 27, 2013. He will take part in the Torch lighting ceremony and return to Washington, DC on Sunday, September 29, 2013.
