MINNEAPOLIS, MN--(Marketwire - June 10, 2010) - The Algal Biomass Organization (ABO), the leading trade association for the algae industry, today announced its 2010-2011 Board of Directors, including new chair Margaret McCormick of Targeted Growth and new vice-chair, Mark Allen of A2BE Carbon Capture LLC. The Board includes two newly-elected directors, an appointed director and the re-election of several existing directors.
The ABO was founded in 2008 to help accelerate the development and commercial application of algal biomass by acting on behalf of the industry through events, advocacy, education and outreach. As part of its commitment to representing the entire algae industry, ABO's Board is comprised of representatives from across the value chain. The board makeup includes representatives from academia, professional services, technology, project development and end-users. Newly-elected directors include:
- Joel Murdock, FedEx Express
- Herminia Rodriguez, University of Sevilla-SCIC
In addition, several existing members were reelected to the board for an additional two-year term:
- Mark Allen, A2BE Carbon Capture
- John Benemann, Benemann & Associates
- Tom Byrne, Byrne & Company Ltd.
- Keith Cooksey, Montana State University
- Bill Glover, The Boeing Company
- B. Greg Mitchell, Scripps Institution of Oceanography
The Board also appointed Frank Prautzsch of Raytheon Corporation to fill a vacant seat on the board.
In addition to education and outreach efforts with policymakers, the ABO produces and hosts the industry's premier global conference, the Algae Biomass Summit, now in its fourth year. The ABO is currently accepting papers and presentation abstracts for the 2010 Algae Biomass Summit, which will be held September 28-30, 2010 in Phoenix, Arizona.
