Algonquin College Students Raise $10,000 and Help Make Muscles Move

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Nov. 11, 2014) - On Thursday November 13th, the Event Management Program at Algonquin College will be presenting a cheque to Muscular Dystrophy Canada for $10,000. The money was raised during various events organized by the students of the Event Management Program.

Yazmine Laroche, Chair of the Board for Muscular Dystrophy Canada and someone who has a neuromuscular disorder says, "Thank you so much for this amazing gift! It is because of such generosity that we are able to continue to build our community, expand the reach of our support services, and provide a brighter future to those who refuse to let their neuromuscular disorder diminish their hope for a positive, active and fulfilling future."

The cheque presentation will take place at Algonquin College on Thursday November 13th at the Restaurant International at 2:30pm. Presenting the cheque on behalf of Algonquin College will be Altaf Sovani, Chair, School of Hospitality and Tourism along with Sylvia Densmore, Coordinator, Professor and Field Placement Coach Event Management Program. The generous gift will also be announced at the 10th "Nearly The New Year" Gala of Hope on Friday November 14th at the Westin Hotel featuring a musical performance by Alan Frew of Glass Tiger.

Muscular Dystrophy Canada is at the heart of an active and positive community of people whose lives are affected by neuromuscular disorders. From fundraising to resources, from advocacy to education, we are here to help all Canadians affected by neuromuscular disorders, in whatever they need. We support people affected by progressive genetic disorders that weaken muscles. These can affect the ability to move, walk, hold things and even breathe. There's no cure yet... which is why support is so important.
