Alianait Arts Festival Celebrates 10 Years with Unique Performing and Visual Artists

Government of Canada confirms funding for the 2014 and 2015 editions of the festival


IQALUIT, NUNAVUT--(Marketwired - June 27, 2014) - The Government of Canada is providing financial support to the Alianait Entertainment Group for the 2014 and 2015 editions of the Alianait Arts Festival and Concert Series.

The Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of the Environment, Minister for the Arctic Council, and Minister of the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency, today announced funding of $170,000 ($85,000 in 2014-2015 and $85,000 in 2015-2016). She made this announcement on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

  • The Alianait Arts Festival is Nunavut's largest multicultural, multidisciplinary event and features artists from Nunavut, across Canada, and around the world, with a particular focus on Inuit and circumpolar artists.
  • The 10th edition of the Alianait Arts Festival takes place in Iqaluit from June 27 to July 1, 2014. It presents music, film, storytelling, arts, dance, theatre, and visual arts. Other activities include creative collaborations and workshops for artists, youth, children, Elder and Inuit audiences; school and pre-school workshops; and year-round concert programming.
  • The Government of Canada is providing this funding through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the variety and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
