AlienVault Unified Security Management Platform for Government Receives NIAP Certification

AlienVault USM for Government Also Achieved Cryptographic Algorithm Validation Program (CAVP)

SAN MATEO, CA--(Marketwired - Feb 9, 2016) - AlienVault, the leading provider of Unified Security Management and crowd-sourced threat intelligence, today announced its Unified Security Management (USM) for Government v4.12 security monitoring appliance has been officially certified by the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP), a program established by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the National Security Agency (NSA) for Common Criteria certification. Officially known as the NIAP Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme for IT Security (CCEVS), the program serves as a partnership between the public and private sectors to validate that IT security products conform to international standards.

AlienVault has also achieved Cryptographic Algorithm Validation Program (CAVP) certification for its cryptographic use of OpenSSL within the USM for Government appliance. CAVP is a NIST-managed program to validate testing for FIPS approved and NIST recommended cryptographic algorithms and components of algorithms.

AlienVault USM for Government is an all-in-one security platform designed to enable government organizations to effectively detect and defend themselves from today's advanced cyber threats. With AlienVault USM for Government, IT and security practitioners can deploy a unified platform that integrates all of the essential security capabilities needed to accelerate threat detection and response, allowing them to identify which threats are most important and understand how to mitigate them from day one. With the new NIAP and CAVP certifications, AlienVault USM for Government will gain further acceptance in the global marketplace.

"The investment that government agencies make in security and compliance management solutions is extensive, and they continue to demand additional levels of proof that vendors' tools can deliver on their promises," said Jim Hansen, vice president of product management at AlienVault. "Achieving NIAP certification provides independent validation of the quality of our Unified Security Management platform and also objective assurance that we're abiding by the stringent security requirements demanded by federal agencies and top enterprises."

For a product to be NIAP-certified, it must undergo evaluation in the United States at a NIAP-approved Common Criteria Testing Laboratory (CCTL). Additionally, as part of the acceptance process, management from the CCEVS must officially accept the product into evaluation.

AlienVault worked with CygnaCom Solutions, Inc. to conduct the IT security evaluation and testing of its Unified Security Management (USM) for Government v4.12 security monitoring appliance. Upon completion of the evaluation, the test results were submitted to NIAP for review, and the product has now been identified as satisfying the Common Criteria for Information Technology Security standards for the Network Device Protection Profile, version 1.1.

"We are happy to confirm that Unified Security Management (USM) for Government v4.12 security monitoring appliance was tested and the results were found to be in conformance with the Common Criteria requirements," says Nithya Rachamadugu, director, Security Evaluation Laboratory, CygnaCom Solutions, Inc.
