Align Technology Announces January 21st Availability of SmartTrack(TM) Invisalign(R) Aligner Material

Next Gen Material Delivers Improved Control of Tooth Movement and Patient Comfort

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - Jan 18, 2013) -  Align Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: ALGN) announced today that SmartTrack™, the next generation of Invisalign clear aligner material, will be available commercially on January 21, 2013. SmartTrack is a highly elastic, proprietary new aligner material that delivers gentle, more constant force to improve control of tooth movements with Invisalign clear aligner treatment. In October 2012 Align announced SmartTrack would become the new standard Invisalign aligner material for Invisalign clear aligner products in North America, Europe, and other international markets in the first quarter of 2013.

Compared to conventional aligner materials which relax and lose a substantial percent of energy in the initial days of aligner wear, SmartTrack maintains more constant force over the two weeks that a patient wears the aligners. The flexible SmartTrack material is designed to more precisely conform to tooth morphology, attachments, and interproximal spaces to improve control of tooth movement throughout treatment. The highly elastic SmartTrack material also makes it easier to insert and remove aligners and delivers improved patient comfort. A study* of more than 1,000 patients treated with Invisalign aligners made with SmartTrack shows statistically significant improvement in control of tooth movements such as rotations and extrusions compared to patients treated with aligners made with current Invisalign material.

More than 5,200 Invisalign providers in North America pre-registered for a series of SmartTrack "Ask the Expert" webinars taking place today. The webinars are hosted by John Morton, Align director of research and development, and Dr. Clark Colville, an orthodontist in Seguin, Texas and participant in the SmartTrack study. The archived webinar and more information on SmartTrack will be available at www.aligntechinstitute.com/SmartTrack starting January 21st.
